New Title: She Lights Up Well
I’ve pulled the trigger on a new title. My first feature film, THE REAL MIKADO, is now called SHE LIGHTS UP WELL. The original title was too obscure for people who weren’t familiar with Gilbert & Sullivan’s opera. When a woman asked me if my film was “The Real Mick-A-Doo,” I realized it was time for a change.
The new title is taken from a song featured in the opera and the movie and I thought the lyrics reflected some of the themes of the film:
“Observe his flame,
That placid dame,
The moon’s Celestial Highness;
There’s not a trace
Upon her face
Of diffidence or shyness:
She borrows light
That, through the night,
Mankind may all acclaim her!
And, truth to tell,
She lights up well,
So I, for one, don’t blame her!”
